在沙漠里徒步的时候,有一个体验,如果给自己定一个清晰的过程目标,比如配速10分钟一公里,比如步速要达到一秒钟两步等等就会让自己的心非常的损耗和焦虑。斤斤计较于每一步是否达成了目标,心变得紧张和不安。反而当放下对那个目标的执著和要求,专注于当下,一步一步的放空了去走,保持韵律、舒适和节奏就能走得越来越轻松和自在。
这也许就是保持自律的同时,保持对自己的温柔吧。
When I was walking in the desert, I had a special experience——when I made a very clear objective of my speed or pace rate, my heart will be worn out and upset--I would pay all my attention to whether or not I was keeping my pace on schedule. Then I tried to shake off all the objectives, and just focus on the step I was taking, kept my rhythm, and let go all my concern and thoughts, and then I felt peace inside and felt more and more freedom from the walk.
I think that is what Jerry's meaning of discipline and gentleness working together.
