Title:THE SEVEN HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE
Author: Stephen R. Covey
Subject:A New Level of Thinking (P21)
R: Reading
Albert Einstein observed, “The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.”
As we look around us and within us and recognize the problems created as we live and interact within the personality ethic,we begin to realize that these are deep, fundamental problem that cannot besolved on the superficial level on which they were created.
We need a new level, a deeper level of thinking– a paradigm based on the principles that accurately describe the territory of effective human being and interacting – to solve these deep concerns.
This new level of thinking is what Seven Habits of Highly Effective People is about. It`s a principle-centered,character-based, “Inside-Out” approach to personal and interpersonal effectiveness.
“Inside-Out” means to start first with self;even more fundamentally, to start with the most inside part of self—with your paradigms, your character, and your motives.
Inside-outI: Interpretation
There is a Chinese idiom of Confucian that is that seek the cause in oneself instead of somebody else (反求诸己).
It says if you want to have a happy marriage, be the kind of person who generates positive energy and sidesteps negative energy rather than empowering it.
If you want to have a more pleasant, cooperative teenager, be a more understanding, empathic, consistent, loving parent.
If you want to be trusted, be trustworthy.
If you want to have more freedom, more latitude in your job, be a more responsible, a more helpful , a more contributing employee.
Are there some ways to implement with it?
1 Vipassana: if you look within you and you are capable of feeling an affinity with it, you will know what`shappened. Mr.Jobs had a regular rest for every year, avoiding any interference from the outside. And he referred to the conventional place as the Meditation Room. He could make a significant conclusion during vipassana, and then returned back to the Apple.
2 Contemplation: put yourconcentration on breath awareness.
[Objection Description]
Obviously, Inside- Out is a process– a continuing process of renewal based on the natural laws that govern human growth and progress. Although the two methods including Vipassana and Contemplation are not easy for you, you could take a try to meditation just for 1 min at the beginning.
A1: Appropriation
It was luckily for me to join the Zen center, I began to know what is meditation. After finishing 3 days in the Zen center, I come back my school and tried to meditate every day. In the first, I only sustained for 5 mins because of a lack ofconcentration. Gradually, I can meditate for 10, 15, 20 and even 30 mins, due to I learned how to focus on. The best way is to count breaths. Yes, it is very simple but useful. Counting breaths from 1, 2, 3, 4….10, and then in return for1, 2, 3, …10. Breathing is the center in your world. In the same time, my lifeand work took a great progress. I can complete the working numbers was thedouble than before. And help me to overcome procrastination. Therefore, pleasehave a try. It’s a good tool for you. I am sure.
A2:Next action
