In 1968, author Frederick Herzberg published an article in the Harvard Business Review aptly titled: “One More Time: How Do You Motivate Employees?” In it, he emphasizes the powerful connection between results and engagement: “People are most satis!ed with their jobs (and therefore most motivated) when those jobs give them the opportunity to experience achievement.”
Forty-three years later in another Harvard Business Review article, “The Power of Small Wins,” authors Teresa Amabile and Steven Kramer emphasize the importance of achievement to team members: “The power of progress is fundamental to human nature, but few managers understand it or know how to leverage progress to boost motivation.”
KISSI: Interpretation
we have learned that scoreboards can be apowerful way to engage employees. A motivating player`s scoreboard not only drives results but uses the visible power of progress to instill the mindset of winning.
So, when we determine if a scoreboard is likely to be compelling to the players, there are four questions we always ask.
1 Is it simple? It has to besimple.
2 Can I see it easily? It has tobe visible to the team.
3 Does it show lead and lagmeasures? It should show both the lead and lag measures.
4 Can I tell at a glance if I`m winning? It has to tell you immediately if you are winning or losing.
TrackingFrom the simple illustration, we can know the WIG was to book a certain number of exhibitors by a certain date.
A1: Appropriation
I began to understand the “Dream List” in the last year. My friend Caicai told me there was a good organization named “Action Pie” which was an organization for the youngster who wane to make a difference in the world. I was wildly affected by the passion and further contacted with the tool of “Dream List”. For example, I made a dream list for bungee jumping I have never dreamed of. My friend Cong cong and I made a challenge for bungee. Woo, so cool! it was fantastic feeling. Maybe one of today seems to be dream that can`t be realized forever, but so long as struggle hard, can unquestionably turn into a fact tomorrow!
