Light is a wave, proved by Young in 1801. Particles go straight while waves spread out, and it is observed that diffraction and interference (nature of waves) take place when a bunch of light passes through slits.
Effects of Slit
Diffraction takes place when light goes through slits. A narrower slit produces a larger diffraction, that is, the central bright fringe is wider. However, when the slit is to narrow, the light intensity would be very low because it is blocked.
