Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “what do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”),” Where are you staying?” “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” So, they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about us in the afternoon. –John1:38-39

“He stayed with him that day.” This is often the case with many of us; Once waking up, we will face the reality. If his profit come, and he will dwell no more with God. In fact, there is no situation of life enough to prevent us from living with the Lord.

“You are Simon; you will be called cephas.” God only writes down new names in our lives where pride, complacency, and self-interest have been erased. Some people’s new name is spotted, like a spiritual measles. In some place, we look good. When spiritual spirit is high, we consider ourselves high saints; But don’t look at us when you’re feeling down. New names are written over all the body of the disciples; selfishness, complacency and others have been wiped out.

Pride is the deification of the self. This is no longer the pattern of the Pharisees, but of the tax collectors. “Oh, I am not a saint,” was an acceptable statement in human pride; but it is an invisible blasphemy against God. What is means is that you resist God and don’t want him to make you a saint. “I am too weak and hopeless for salvation.” Humility in front of people may virtually blaspheme God. Why aren’t you a saint? Do you not want to be a saint, or do you not believe that God can make you a saint? You say, “If God would save me, you’d better bright me to the heaven directly”, which was exactly what he was going to do! “Let us come and live with God.” Don’t be trapped in a cocoon. Let Jesus be everything to you. And he will bring you with him unto his house for ever and ever.

Dear God, how much of my mind has been occupied by the interest which has lately surrounded me, so that these things have become the center. May you be the fixed center of my life and everything around me.
