Wages and houses are two things that people are most concerned about. For college students who are about to graduate and enter society, in which city will they get a higher salary ? In which city to live, their pressure to buy a house is smaller?
Using data from the National Bureau of Statistics of the People’s Republic of China and the China House Price Market, we collected data on average wages in 2017 and average house prices in May 2018 in 34 cities across the country. The average wage is an indicator of the overall level of wages, including individual income tax withheld from personal wages, social security and housing provident fund contributions.

Through the analysis of these data, we hope to solve the following three questions:
First, which city has the most attractive salary level for workers in the whole country?
Second, what is the housing price level in themajor cities of the country?
Third, in which cities, workers have the biggest pressure to buy houses?
First, which city has the most attractive salary level for workers in the whole country?
Through the data mapand histogram, we can see very intuitively, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen,Guangzhou as the established front line city, still firmly occupy the top wage ranking. Beijing topped the list with an average salary of 9240 yuan a month, with Shanghai, second, averaging 8962 yuan a month. Shenzhen and Guangzhou ranked third and fourth with 8315 yuan / month and 7409 yuan / month respectively. We can also find that the top 10 cities with average wages are located in the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta. Shenyang, Harbin and Changchun, the provincial capitals of the three northeastern provinces, rank at the bottom of 34 cities, reflecting the difficulties in economicdevelopment in the Northeast.
Second, the level of housing prices in major cities across the country
Through the data map and histogram, we know that the average price of house prices in Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai is the highest in China, and the average price in Beijing is more than 60000 yuan / m². From the regional point of view, economic development in the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta is strong, their housing prices are also in the forefront of the country.
Third, in which cities, workers have the biggest pressure to buy houses?
Housing price-to-wage ratio ,through this indicator, we found that in the front line cities, except Guangzhou, Beijing、Shenzhen and Shanghai, the housing price-to-wage ratio were over 5. For example, if you want to buy a100-square-meter house in Beijing, you need to work at least 59 years without other consumption. Xiamen as a new first-tier city, the pressure to buy houses ranks among the top three in the country. In 34 cities, the pressure to buy ahouse is the lowest in Guiyang.
Through data analysis, although the pressure of life in all major cities is not small, I believe that we can live the life we want to live through efforts.
