这本绘本内容贴近牛仔近来关注的主题——入园；文本也相对简单。
生活输入
1. 今晚做了很多事，还画了画。因此读绘本较少。孩子画完画后，告诉孩子：You are artistic inclined. You have the potential to be an artist/paintist.

妈妈功课
今天，我特地做了《Construction site on Christmas night》的功课，词汇、中文含义都摸了清楚。
（1）The team is slamming into gear.
gear 档
slam 用力一推，slam into （使）重重地撞上
slam into gear 挂档
* 为了帮助牛仔进一步理解“team”，可以在平时告诉牛仔，这是你的车队，这些车是一个team。
（2）So much is riding on the crew.
ride on sth （通常用于进行时）依赖于；依靠。关于riding on， 还可以参考字典中的例句：My whole future is riding on this interview. （我的未来全靠这次面试了。）这句话用在前面学过的一张关于面试的教案卡片中再好不过了。
crew 有“专业团队”的意思。为了帮助孩子进一步理解"crew“，可以告诉牛仔，this is a construction crew. 这里crew和上面的team可以简单地理解为同义词。后文的fleet也是“车队”，和team、crew都是同义词。也可以和孩子说a fleet of construction vehicles
（3）The trucks are racing at full tilt.
race 孩子已经知道是“比赛”的意思，但是这里可不是比赛，而是“快速运转、快速移动”之意。字典中有个例句，平时也可以借鉴：She raced her car through the narrow streets of the town. （她开着车在小镇狭窄的街道上飞快地穿行。）用在孩子平时的玩乐中，可以说：You raced your bike through the paths of the community. （你骑着自行车在小区的小路上飞快地穿行。）
at full tilt （=as fast as possible)全速，尽快。所以，也可以说：The trucks are racing as fast as possible.
（4）clear the site in no time flat
in no time flat ： quickly 这里也可以说，clear the way quickly
（5）he turns away to end his shift
shift 轮班，轮班工作时间 end his shift 就是“结束了他的工作”。
这句话和后文的As excavator rolls away, slowing down to end his day可以看成同义转述的句子来加以体会。
（6）a massive gift 巨大的礼物。讲到这里时，可以顺便复习一下massive的数个同义词。
（7）cable "ribbon"
两者都是“绳子”，但是却不同。cable 是“缆绳”，而ribbon是“（用于捆绑或装饰的）丝带、带子”。
（8）it's topped off with a thank-you card.
top off with sth 以……圆满结束，用……完成
（9）carbon steel blade
carbon steel 碳钢
（10）custom paint job, custom made!
custom 形容词，只用于名词前，“订制的”
（11）chugging at full blast
chug 发动机缓慢运转时发出突突声
at full blast 最大音量地，最大马力地（和前文的at full tilt 意思相似）
（12）clouds roll in, a brisk wind blows
roll in 大量涌入，滚滚而来
brisk 凉爽的，清新的 a brisk wind /breeze 凉爽的风，微风
后文还出现了icy wind凛冽的风，icy是“冰冷的”; 以及whipping winds 狂风，疾风
（13）the clock in town begins to chime
chime 鸣，敲，报时
（14）he churns another load that will be used to make a road
churn 动词，剧烈搅动。这里就是形容水泥车的动作。
（15）一组表示水泥车“旋转、转动”的同义词：twirl / roll/ spin/
（16）in record time, he's done his chores
in record time 以破纪录的成绩。 chores有“家务活”之意，之前我们经常在生活中说到household chores；在这里是“例行工作”之意。
（17）he rumbles to a grinding stop 他轰鸣着突然停下来
rumble 发出持续而低沉的声音；发出隆隆声。过去，我们见过它形容打雷声，thunder rumbling in the distance （远处隆隆的雷声），
a grinding stop/halt 突然停顿下来
（18）his drum is old, beat up, plain
beat up （美国俚语）破旧的，破破烂烂的
plain 素色的，无花纹的
（19）dump truck revs to keep the pace
rev （使）快速运转。when you rev an engine or it revs, it runs quickly. 有点类似上文的race的含义。
keep the pace 保持速度
（20）There‘s nothing left to haul. He slows his engine to a crawl.
haul （用力）拉，拖，拽 。另一个相关例句平时也可以在孩子玩汽车玩具的时候说：let's use the crane to haul the car out of the stream.
crawl 动词是“爬”，显然这里是名词，“缓慢的速度”之意。The traffic slowed to a crawl. 来往的车辆放缓速度缓慢前行。
（21）stop in awe

engine fires 点火，发动
（23）midnight black with thick, tough tread
tread 轮胎的胎面，外胎花纹
（24）siren blare and air horns shout
siren 汽笛 blare 发出刺耳响声
air horns 也是汽笛，可以理解为siren的同义词
