• fire engine
  消防车，救火车

• squirt
  喷射，喷出
     Water suddenly squirted out from a hole in the pipe.
     突然有水从管子上的一个洞里喷射出来。

• charcoal
  木炭，炭笔画
     charcoal grey
     深灰色，炭灰色

• fire lighter
  点火器，打火机

• flood
  作动词可以表示淹没，涌入，蜂拥而至。
     She drew back the curtains and the sunlight came flooding in.
     她拉起窗帘，阳光倾泻进来。
     He was flooded with joy when his first child was born.
     第一个孩子出生时，他满心欢喜。
     We were flooded with calls from worried parents.
     我们接到无数焦虑的家长打来的电话。

• unpack
  pack作动词表示包装，整理，unpack则表示打开(盒子、包或手提箱等)。
     Maggie carefully unpacked the gifts she had bought.
     玛吉小心翼翼地打开她买的礼物。

   拓展：
   unpack也可以表示分析，剖析。
   英文解释为：to make an idea or problem easier to understand by considering all the parts of it separately。
      Some of the issues surrounding mental illness have been unpacked in Chapter 3.
      一些有关精神疾病的问题在第 3 章已经分析过了。

短语

• put sb on
  相当于put spmeone on the phone，get someone to phone，让某人接电话。

• take/have a peek
  匆匆一瞥。
     If I'm passing by I might take a peek at the new premises.
     如果我路过那个新场地的话，可能会看上一眼。

• sort out
  sort out有整理，分类的意思，同时它可以表示解决，处理（问题/难题），类似于deal with。
     She went to a psychiatrist to try to sort out her problems .
     她去找了一位精神科医生，想看看自己的毛病。

• take over
  接管；接任；接手。
     His only reason for investing in the company was to take it over.
     他投资这家公司唯一的原因是想接管它。

句子

• Oh, goody!
  （表示快乐）好啊，太好了
     Oh goody! Chocolate cake.
     嘿，太好了！巧克力蛋糕。

• There is a good girl.
  这才是好姑娘/乖孩子/这才是好狗狗，一般用来哄孩子或者宠物等。
     Come on, eat up, there's a good girl.
     快点儿，全都吃完，这才是乖女孩。

• what's keeping him?
  keep sb可以表示耽误某人，耽搁了某人。这句话经常用在口语中，表示“他被什么事情耽搁了？”（怎么还不来）
     He should be here by now. What's keeping him?
     他现在本该到这儿了，什么事把他耽搁了？

• Oh, I say
  比较老式的用法，可以表示惊奇、震惊等，也可以用来引起注意或引出新的话题。
     I say! What a huge cake!
     乖乖！多大的一个蛋糕啊！
     I say, can you lend me five pounds?
     我说,你能借我五英镑吗？
