The tourist industry has grown enormously over the last fifty years, and there are few places which are unaffected by it. However, tourism rarely benefits the countries which tourists visit. Do you agree or disagree?
Because of the rapid growth of tourism, many places change their appearances. It’s hard to say all the influences from the tourism are positive, like any other major industries, tourism may have some drawbacks. However, it truly bring a lot benefits to those places.
First of all, tourism improves the market demand of a country or city. For example, the visits of tourists accompany with the increasing demand of hotels, petrol stations, restaurants and so on. They spend money in the country and this allows local businesses to flourish. As the visits grow, a lot of new job opportunities are created which support the financial of local citizens and also improve their standard of living.
Furthermore, in order to be able to visit remote areas, many infrastructures have to be built and local people also benefit by being able to use these new facilities.
In pace with the improvement of communications and economics, it becomes possible for other industries to move into the area, bringing with them more employment opportunities and increased prosperity.
Besides benefits from economics, visitors from outside bring fresh ideas and different ways of doing things to the local community. Consequently, local people may learn many different kinds of cultures from tourists without going outside the country. Likewise, visitors learn about the local people and culture, and return home with deeper understanding of the host country.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that governments should encourage tourism because of the opportunities it offers for ordinary people to improve their quality of life.
