Changes in Reading Habits
What are the implications of the way we read today?
Paragraph 1
Look around on your next plane trip. The iPad is the new pacifier for babies and toddlers. Younger school-aged children read stories on smartphones; older kids don’t read at all, but hunch over video games. Parents and other passengers read on tablets or skim a flotilla of email and news feeds. Unbeknown to most of us, an invisible, game-changing transformation links everyone in this picture; the neuronal circuit that underlines the brain’s ability to read is subtly, rapidly changing and this has implications for everyone from the pre-reading toddler to the expert adult.

a flotilla of= a lot of/ a number of / plenty of，但是a flotilla of email的画面感是不是很强？邮件像小舰队一样驶来。这样的表达非常英式思维，即注重语言的简洁和灵动性，这也就是为什么在雅思口语和写作中，phrasal verbs（动词短语）的使用情况被作为一项重要的评分标准。
但是，也要注意English Collocations（英语惯用搭配),不能按照中文的翻译生硬乱套，例如a flotilla of books就会很奇怪，描述书很多的时候，常见的表达是a pile of books（一摞书）或者piles and piles of books（许许多多的书）。
a flotilla of的常见搭配：
a flotilla of ships/cargo boats（一列船队/一列货船）
a flotilla of changes 许许多多的改变
a flotilla of turtles 一群涌入的乌龟

News Feed（信息流）是社交软件Facebook（脸书）2006年发布的一个功能，和WeChat（微信）的Moments（朋友圈）类似，即把用户关注的朋友和网页的update states（更新状态）和comments（评论）发送给用户。
当然，这一功能也引起了用户的不适，“users feared the updates made it too easy for others to track their updates and activity on Facebook.”（摘自techopedia）用户担心Facebook的这一功能会让别人很容易追踪到个人的更新和动态。于是，该功能进行了改进，用户可以选择是否把动态和更新发给朋友，也可以选择是否看别人的更新和动态。
WeChat（微信）在添加好友时也会有类似的选择，chat only（只聊天）还是chat and share the moments（聊天且朋友圈可见）。
