What are the most difficult things people have to learn in their 20s from your experience?

Most of the things you think are important are not. Family, friends and relationships are more important than you think.

Yes. Friends and family are supposed to be our first priorities, no matter what stage of life we're at, but some people's priorities change with time. I admit that I've neglected my parents while living separately for years……

Sometimes, people you thought would be around all the time drift away. But it's ok, because everyone comes into your life for a reason, even if for a little while……

Learning to live independently. At the start of their 20s, most people still rely on their parents for money and accommodation. By the time they leave their 20s, they should be able to exist independently. A lot of people don't make the transition and end up being in a relationship where they still get that support instead. However, everyone should master independence. At least, people should be able to keep their house tidy and cook for themselves.

How to get ahead financially. Student loans can be debilitating for many Americans in their twenties and thirties……
River
I wonder at what age the younger generation there generally stops relying on their parents for money.
Katie
I suppose age 18-25 for most. I was 18 when I started college and that is when I stopped relying on my parents for money.

Planning for retirement. It is best to start early. I don't know how retirement works in other countries, but in America, many are investment based plans. When you start early, you have significantly more when you retire, even if just investing small amounts.

If a person is in education until 22 years old, they are essentially untested in the competitive world. Education is so structured that many people can't make the transition.
I hated education. I have started two businesses and love my lifestyle. I know many people who thrived in education, but they're always too scared to find a job. At the same time, they are too scared to do something entrepreneurial.

I was told that most western countries taught their people how to think and live independently at an early age. I'm not sure if that's true. May I askif you were educated in the British educational system? What's your opinion on it ?
Alex
Yes, I was educated in the UK. Culturally, we do value independence, but usually the parents drive that, not our education system. I don't think most people are good at thinking independently. What I mean is that in education, the teacher teaches something, you get an exam on it, but real life is nothing like that. I have many friends who are incapable of starting a business, because they need to be told what to do and what the answer will be. They don't have any ability in abstract thinking.
