听力打卡 Day 3

今天的听力内容来自清晨朗读会创办者John其老师Henry的一首诗。

“这首诗是在看完本学期高中的话剧之后写的，感慨了演出的效果”

语言甚是清新，令人仿佛置身其中，被学生们的精彩表演和蓬勃朝气所感染。

听力原文

a wonderful, intense drama

the play as revelation

(n.出人意料的真相透露，揭露的惊人内幕；（上帝或超自然力的）启示)

when the two leads took their bows,

(鞠躬)

I stood up to applaud them,

with tears in my eyes

and awe（n. 敬畏） in my soul

at what they and their comrades

（n. 同志们（comrade的复数））

wrought  upon the stage tonight,（adj. 锻造的；加工的；精细的）

at the end of a long week,

with all of us within the recursive nightmare

（adj. [数] 递归的；循环的）

our current politics visit upon us,

here was a profound play pulled off,（赢得；脱下；努力实现）

created by high schoolers

just coming full into their power,

they call up （使想起）a slice of the truth of our past

we’d rather not remember,

when minds felt surer the smaller they got,

the more moral when they rushed to judge,

St. Peter was counting and the Pharisees were in charge,

the letter of old rules trumps

（vt. 胜过；打出王牌赢） what love demands of us,

one character, so lost in her own desires,

that all others became but means to an end,

an end that only serves her,

a director who knows the stage as revelation,

revelation of thought, of feeling,

of students coming into their power,

I am pulled into the students’ world,

and I am called to appreciate whenever, however,

the greatness of spirit can find the way to manifest,（vt. 证明，表明；显示）

for a time.

that和前面的so构成so that, but是仅仅的意思（作为adv是只有仅仅的意思），means 是方式，手段的意思；end是目的的意思；翻译：有一个角色如此沉迷于自己的欲望，以至于所有其他人都成了她实现她目的工具。
