Time has a funny way of getting away from us when we are chasing dopamine.
Our temporal horizons shrink when are under the sway of an addictive drug.
In today’s dopamine-rich ecosystem, we have all become primed for immediate gratification. We want to buy something, and the next day it shows up our our doorstep. We want to know something, and the answer appears on our screen the next second. Are we losing the knack of puzzling things out or being frustrated while searching for the answer, or having to wait for the things we want?
Delayed rewards and immediate gratification? When people receive immediate gratification, their brain area that governs emotions lights up, while when they delay their rewards, their prefrontal cortex lights up which is the area that is responsible for planning and active thinking.
