I had an amazing experience last year. When I visited a primary school in Denmark, I came across a girl who looked likean Asian. As I was not sure she was a Chinese, I talked with her in English. Aftera while, I learned that she moved to Copenhagen with her family at the age of7. So I guessed she could speak Chinese, at least a little bit. I tried to askher, ‘do you speak Chinese?’ She nodded her head with sweet smiles. She wasindeed a Chinese. Owing to lack of chances to speak Chinese in Copenhagen, sheforgot many Chinese words and expressions, but she spoke Danish fluently. Itseemed that Chinese was her second language and Danish her mother tongue.
