While speaking at the National Youth Mentoring Summit today, Prince Harry opened up about the "newfound clarity" he's gained as a father, knowing his son Archie will look up to him as an example. He and Meghan Markle recently welcomed their son two months ago, and he's already changed their lives greatly.
As the Duke of Sussex addressed young people at the summit—presented by The Diana Award, named after his late mother—he discussed how he's discovered the power of "the invisible role model, the person who may be sitting here today that doesn't realize that someone looks up to them." He pointed out that he experiences a similar dynamic with his child.
"Perhaps it's the newfound clarity I have as a father, knowing my son will always be watching what I do, mimicking my behavior, one day maybe even following in my footsteps," he said. "But it's not just my role as a father that shows me that; it's in the people I see every day that don't realize how inspirational they are to those watching."
The Duke of Sussex also tipped a hat to his mom, Princess Diana, who "was a role model to so many, without realizing the impact she would have on so many lives." He added, "You don’t have to be a princess or a public figure to be a role model, in fact it’s equally valuable if you’re not because it’s more relatable."
At the end of his speech, Harry made note of Princess Diana's birthday, which took place yesterday. "To the mentees here today, I am incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved, and I can safely say that my mother, who would have turned 58 yesterday, would feel the same," he said.
Harry and Meghan are expected to step out with Archie this Saturday for the little one's christening. The event is slated to be private, but here's to hoping we get another sweet family photo for the books.
