Some commonly used British slangs

American slangs tends to more widely recognised thanks in due to media, and of course movies. British slang does however have a charm of its own and is constantly evolving.

由于媒体和电影的力量，美式俚语趋于得到广泛认可。然而，英式俚语也确实具有自己的魅力，并且在不断发展中。

If you find yourself watching any movies from England, and can't seem to understand any of the slangs or terms used. Then this article would certainly be of great use to revealing just what they mean. Besides, it would also be interesting to learn some of the words people in England tend to use  during their day to day.

如果你发现自己看英国电影好像听不懂他们的俚语或术语，那么这篇文章对于揭示它们的含义肯定会很有用。此外，学一些英国人在日常生活中常使用的单词也蛮有意思的。

Bloke

Bloke in general is used to describe a 'man', its almost in comparison to the american to usage of an ‘average joe’.

It can be used ‘I saw a bloke walking down the road'.

Bloke一般用于指“男人”，使用的频繁次数几乎可以和美国的“普通人”相比。

例：可以用于“我看见一男的走过去了”。

Brilliant

While this word isn't exclusively used in Britain. It is commonly used especially when there is some good news. Its usage is probably similarly to americans use of  'Awesome'

Example. 'You won the lottery? Brilliant!'

这个词并不是只在英国用到。它挺常见的，尤其是听到好消息时。它的用法大概和美国人用的“Awesome”类似。     

例：你彩票中奖啦？真棒！

Bugger all

This is a bit on the rude side. It's commonly used to mean 'nothing at all'. When you have not done anything worth talking about.

Example. 'I have been inside all day and done bugger all mate'

这个用法稍微有点粗鲁。当你没有做任何值得谈论的事情时，它通常表示“什么都没有”。

例：我待在家一整天了啥也没干。

Cheers

While it can be used for toasting with drinks during celebrations. However, outside of this setting. It is also commonly used to mean 'Thanks' or 'Thank you'.

Example. 'Charles, mate, cheers for the drink'

它常作为庆祝活动中的敬酒词。然而，离开饭桌时它也常用于指“谢谢”或“谢谢你”。

例：查理兄弟啊，快敬酒。

Mate

One of the most commonly used words of endearment is actually  used when talking to friends. It basically just means 'friend' and is in comparison to the american usage of 'buddy', 'pal' . 

Example. 'Cheers mate'.

与朋友交谈时最常用到表示亲昵的词。它基本上就是“朋友”的意思，和美国人用的“伙伴”差不多。

例：兄弟干了这杯！

Cock up

While slightly vulgar, this british slang is used in reference to a large failure of epic proportions. 

Example. 'There has been a right cock up. Emails were sent to the wrong customers'.

虽然有些粗俗，但这种英式俚语是用来表示史诗级般的巨大失败。

例：完蛋了！邮件发错客户了！

Dodgy

This British slang refers to something suspicious, perhaps illegal or just plain wrong in some way.

Example. 'I had a dodgy burger yesterday. I don't feel good'

Example. 'There is a dodgy looking guy outside your door'

这个英式俚语指可疑的东西，可能是非法的，或在某种程度上只是指明显的错误。

例：我怀疑我昨天那个汉堡吃坏了，我现在感觉很不舒服。

例：你门外有个看起来很可疑的家伙。

Gutted

It's a slang that means to be disapointed. To be gutted is to be devasted or saddened by something.

Example. 'My bike got stolen. I'm absolutely gutted mate'

失望的意思。被伤到就是对某件事格外伤心。

例：我自行车被偷了，我超级伤心。

Jammy

This is usually used to describe someone who is lucky, without having to put any effort into it. 

Example. 'He just keeps on winning.  He is proper jammy'

这通常用于描述某人很幸运，无需付出任何努力。

例：他总是赢，真是上帝的宠儿。

Proper

This has different usages, depending on the context. It can be used to denote an appropriate action or used as an amplifier. For example an alternative to 'very' , or ' extremely'.

Example. 'Don't do that. That's not the proper way to behave'

Example. 'That burger was proper tasty'

这个词根据语境会有不同的用法。它可以用来表示适当的行为或用于夸张。例如，可以作为“非常”或“极度”的替代词。

例：别那样做。那是很没礼貌的行为。

例：那个汉堡真是好吃。

Taking the piss

The word piss can be used in many different ways and have different meanings. However the term, 'taking the piss'. This generally is, to make fun out or, or mock something or someone, to be sarcastic towards.

Example. 'Sarah was taking the piss out of you'

Example. 'Are you taking the piss'

piss这个词用在不同的地方有不一样的意思。而“taking the piss”这个词组通常指开玩笑或嘲笑或讽刺某人或某物。

例：Sarah在跟你开玩笑呢。

例：你在开玩笑吗？

Take/taking a piss

This just meant plain out just meant 'urinating'.

这个词组就只是单纯的撒尿的意思了。

Pissed off

This phrase 'pissed off' meant 'angry'.

Example. 'I'm pissed off with Sarah'

这个词组是非常生气的意思。

例：我对Sarah很生气。
