In my career, what I've always tried my best to do, whether on television or through film, is to say something about how men and women really behave, to say how we experience shame, how we love and how we rage, how we fail, how we retreat, persevere and how we overcome.

1.划出主干

所以主干是：The thing is to say something, to say how we X, how we X, how we X…

2.句子成分和单词

“In my career”的作用是搭建场景，给整句话一个施展的空间和时间。

“I've always tried my best to do”是修饰“the thing”的，即这个thing是我一直努力去做的thing.

“whether on television or through film”的前后都有“，”，属于插入语。什么是插入语？比如，你正在台上发言，台下有人说“不好意思，我打断一下”，接下来这人说的话就是插入语，可以是补充、反对，也可以只是调节下气氛。

“about how men and women really behave”是对something进行说明的，即say的something是关于男女真实行为的.

“X”代表experience(体验)、love(相爱)、rage(愤怒)、fail(失败)、retreat(退缩)、persevere(坚持)、overcome(征服)。

也可以简单概括地说，“X”就是think或feel，因为体验、相爱、愤怒、失败、退缩、坚持、征服，很多时候是精神层面的。

3.有用的句型

（1）What……is……（即The thing which……is……）

这个句型用在什么地方呢？

当我们要描述一个东西，或一个想法时，一开始不知道怎么概括比较好，这时，就可以先说What，然后在What之后进行补充说明。

例如：What he put into the bag yesterday morning is a toy.

What you said just now have touched me.

（2）……is to……

比如：What I've tried my best to do is to find where I came from, who I am, and where I should go.

我努力要做的，就是去发现：我来自哪里、我是谁、我要去那里。

（3）排比句
