One's destination is never a place, but rather a new way of looking at things
—— Harry Miller. American writer
hello everyone, good afternoon
Today, my topic is a saying of an American writer, Henry Miller,“One's destination is never a place, but rather a new way of looking at things”.
As we all know, the distination generally means the place to which somebody is going. So what does the saying mean. How do we understand" a new way of looking at things"?
Well, for example, when we climb a high mountain or enhance some difficulties,we usually set a goal to achieve it,which could be a destination, right? someone will complain or directly give up if they can't make it,but the saying tells us that don't be too serious about the destination, but be more careful about the views around the world and the stuffs that could really change our mind. That's the means of a new way of looking at things, I suppose. Just a don't take it for granted that every good idea can come to a good result, and you will understand.
In the case, where we travel,we will see more sceneries on the way and have much happiness.Whenwe study,We will pay more attention to the process of solving problems rather than the complaints, and of course,we will get more knowledge and fun. That's the mental difference.
As an ancient of Chinese Xunzi said, truly if you do not climb a high mountain, you will be not aware of the height of the sky. If you don't look up in to a deep gorge, you be not aware of the thickness of the earth.
We move forward for a new way of seeing things, but not the destination.
Thank you for your listening.
