loom ：  if something unpleasant or difficult looms, it seems likely to happen soon

loom:

1）以庞然大物的形状出现在前面,如：Suddenly a mountain loomed up in front of them.

2）与一些有负向意义的词做主语，比如 “crisis” “problem” “threat” “danger”，表示“出现在人们心目中，既重大又令人惊恐不安”。

3）表示“迫在眉睫”、“一触即发”。
