above 和 over
1. 表示“高于"：用 above 或 over
above 和 over 都可以表示“高于”，但 above 更常用。
The water came up above / over our knees.
水没过了我们的膝盖。
Can you see the helicopter above / over the palace?
你能看见宫殿上方的那架直升飞机吗?
2. 表示“不在正上方"：用 above
用 above 表示某物不在另一物的正上方。
We've got a little house above the lake.
我们在湖边高坡上有一所小房子。( 不能说：... over the lake. )
3. 表示“覆盖"：用 over
表示某物覆盖另一物，或与其接触，或既覆盖又接触，多用 over。
There is cloud over the South of England.
英格兰南部上空有云。
He put on a coat over his pyiamas。
他在睡衣外面罩了一件大衣。
表示某物越过另一物，可用 over 或 across。
The plane was flying over / across Denmark。
当时飞机正飞越丹麦。
Electricity cables stretich over / across the fields.
电缆越过田野，伸向远方。
4. 量度：用 above
表示温度和高度以及其他存在纵向尺度的场合，用 above。
The temperature is three degrees above zero.
现在的温度是零上三度。
The summit of Qomolangma is more than 8,000 metres above sea level.
珠穆朗玛峰海拔8,000多米。
She's well above average in inteligence.
她的聪明才智远在一般人之上。
5. 谈论年龄和速度，表示数量“多于”：用 over
谈到年龄和速度，以及表示数量“多于”的时候，一般用 over， 而不用 above.
You have to be over 18 to see this film.
年满18岁的人才能看这部电影。
The police said she was driving at over 110 mph.
警方说她当时驾驶的时速超过110英里。
There were over 100,000 people at the festival.
参加庆祝活动的人数超过了10万。
6. 书和论文
在书和论文里，above 的意思是“上文写到”。
The above rules and regulations apply to all students.
所有学生均须遵守上述规章制度。

see over 的意思是“见下页”。
There are cheap flights at weekends: see over.
