Today, a client came into my spa. As soon as she walked in, she mentioned her skin was sensitive.
A previous esthetician had told her that the redness on her face was due to facial telangiectasia. She usually only uses gentle moisturizers and asked me to be careful with her treatment and not use irritating products.
Although many clients think they have sensitive skin, according to clinical experience, it's an overreaction in most cases. I turned on the beauty lamp to examine her facial skin. I found that she had many delicate red veins, few puffy blood vessels around her eyes, dead skin and comedones, small pimples, and enlarged pores in the T-zone. Considering all factors, I concluded that her skin was not overly sensitive, but it desperately needed exfoliation. Therefore, I recommended that she use retinol and chemical peels to enhance her skin's barrier function.
The client was shocked by this suggestion. There is no direct correlation between blood vessel dilation and skin sensitivity. So, don't assume that your skin is sensitive just because you have red veins, and don't rely solely on moisturizing lotions to eliminate them.
There are many reasons for blood vessel dilation, such as genetics, exposure to extreme climates, and hormones.
So, why do we have red veins?
Our skin is covered with blood vessels, which expand when venous pressure increases. What can cause these tiny blood vessels to enlarge?
1,Genetics – Some people are born with thinner blood vessels, making them more prone to red veins.
2,Exposure to extreme climates – For example, sun exposure can cause the face to become hot and red, increasing blood flow and, over time, causing blood vessels to dilate. Sun exposure can also cause the skin to thin (atrophy), making blood vessels more apparent. In extreme cold, blood vessels may gradually lose their ability to constrict, leading to dilation.
3,Hormones – After pregnancy, hormonal changes, such as increased estrogen levels, can cause blood vessel dilation. Additionally, stress hormones may affect blood vessel walls, making them more fragile. Environmental factors – Airborne irritants can continuously stimulate your skin, causing chronic inflammation and blood vessel dilation. The most typical skin condition resulting from this is rosacea.
4,Dietary habits – Consuming excessive amounts of spicy foods or alcoholic beverages can stimulate blood vessels and cause them to dilate.
How to treat red veins:
1, Medical SPA laser treatment.
2, Skincare products – Consult with a professional esthetician to choose suitable retinol and regular chemical peels to thicken the dermal layer of the skin.
3, Lifestyle changes – Adjusting certain lifestyle factors, such as avoiding sun exposure, eating a healthy diet, and reducing stress, can alleviate red vein symptoms. If you have a concern about this, feel free to make an appointment for a free consultation.
