It was the first day of April,2014, maybe it was a normal April Fools’ Day to you guys, but that was really special for me. In that day, I set foot on the land of Africa. It was the first time I should be called foreigner or laowai. Seeing is believing. Before I went abroad, I always felt that the outside world was more wonderful than domestic. But the days which I was in Africa were not so amazing!
One of my female colleague went together with me in these business trip. We had got to fly to three countries including Uganda, Mozambique and Cameroon, to visit my new clients who I even had no idea where they were. The days I traveled in Africa was full of challenges. Please imagine there are two girls travel to three strange countries without any help, what will happen? Of course, they will in trouble. As soon as we went out the airport, hundreds of problems came to us. We had to find a place to change local money, had to find place to live, had to find where the market was. You may ask, why you two did not do these prepare works in China? In the fact, the exchange rate of dollar to CFA flank was 1 to 600. It was not so convenient to travel with too much local money. Even though, we had credit cards, but rare of hotel there could accepted the cards at that time. Then the most important thing was to find a hotel to stay, but the price of the hotel really shocked me. It cost at least 200USD dollars for a room just like a room of Rujia in Ningbo. I thought I was went to some fake developing countries. This was like a turnover of all the things I thought before. In order to avoid to sleep on the street,we decided to take that room. Due to the exceeded expectation price of hotel, we had problem with running out of money.
It’s always says a happy beginning is half the work. My travel began with so many problems. It made me feel so nervous, terrible, unsafe and helpless. We all know Africa is a hot or warm land. But you never know how warm they are. Even the mosquitoes there brought their warm greetings to me. As a result, I got many mosquitoes bites on my arms and legs. And finally, I got malaria. This sick was very terrible, which made me vomiting and had a high fever. Finally, I stayed in a French hospital for three days to recover. The experience I stayed in French hospital was also a unique memory which I will remember forever. Even I was very sick at that moment, when the nurse came up to my infusion with a large needle, I still did my best to let out a scream. Until now it is still remained me why the needle is so much larger than in China. I thought everything was already the worst, and it would back to normal way later on. God closed a door and will open a window for you. Absolutely he opened the window, the window of my airplane and also took my luggage away! Yes, my luggage was lost when I transited from Mozambique to Cameroon! How I love the magic Africa land!
Hey, guys, how do you think my trip in Africa? What I want to say is trouble will find me no matter where I go. After so many problems, I am still alive, how strong I am! But in fact, I cried when I was in that terrible situation. After crying, I remembered what my mom told me when I was young, she said everyone live with problem, what we could do is to accept it and to solve it, all is well that ends well. So, I try to think it positively even I feel cold, tired, pain, any bad feelings. I just tell myself. It’s ok; it’s a testing that to help me practice my skills about how positive I can be. The key is all about your feeling, your attitude to life. I had to change my situation, change it from hate the problem to solve the problem. Anyway, I want return back to China alive.
Now you can see I am alive and healthy in Ningbo. And everything goes very well. And I want thanks for the amazing life in Africa, or let me just called that amazing life, taught me problems was a part of life, we should find our own way to live with them.
There are still challenges in my life, of course; now, however, I was able to tackle them with a positive attitude, and that seemed to make all the difference. When I met some problems which I never met before, I would tell myself you are the one who came back alive from Africa, what else can defeat you!
In this May, I will travel to Africa again. Now I am in expectation of this travel, and looking forward to the amazing life in Africa.
Live with problem
