There is a timeless simplicity to the pullof home. For many, the idea of home reaches beyond a physical building, to ahome town or city.
【雅思写作口语素材】这段用到口语第二部分“描述春节（回家过年习俗）”“描述活动（回家聚会）”“描述家庭”“描述建筑（家）”“印象深刻的事（离家很久再回家）”等话题妥妥的。Home还可以替换成Friends、relatives甚至祖国。发音、用词和语法多地道啊。
【语法分析】We think of our homes as places of warmth, familiarity and love - of shared stories and memories - which is perhaps why, at this time of year, so many return to where they grew up.一个长难句该如何分析和理解？
先把插入语at this time of year, 和 - of shared stories and memories -去除。句子变成We think of our homes as places of warmth, familiarity and lovewhich is perhaps why so many return to where they grew up.
分析嵌套的从句1：This（which）is perhaps why so many return to 前面是主句，后面是where引导的宾语从句，表地点where they grew up.
分析嵌套的从句2：This（which）is perhaps 前面是主句，后面是why引导的名词性从句，表原因why so many return home（to where they grew up）.
再来分析从句：We think of our homes as places of warmth, familiarity and love 前面是主句，后面是which引导的定语从句，修饰整个句子which is perhaps why so many return to where they grew up.
所以整个句子主干可以变成我们熟悉的样子：Our homes are places of warmth, familiarity and love, so we return
home.注意这句里的so是引导原因状语从句的连词，而原句中的so是so many的一部分，不承担语法结构上连词的角色，而是作为副词修饰many，表示“很、非常”。
分析长难句，先把插入语和不影响理解的修饰部分忽略不看；再把引导从句的引导词找到，从而定位主句；如果有看不出来对谁嵌套的从句，就按顺序一层层地来剥析出从句是主句的哪个语法成分。
【to的使用】There is a timeless simplicity to the pull of home.这句结构简单，但我理解的时候还是觉得好难。首先，simplicity的搭配是of，怎么会用to呢？查了字典，to做介词有14个义项（详情参阅http://www.learnersdictionary.com/definition/to），其中我认为比较合理的解释，是to可以表原因，即used to indicate the thing that causes something to happen，例句她母亲因癌症过世She lost her mother to cancer. [=her mother died of cancer]。
这样的话，句子可以转化成there is a timeless simple reason for the pull of home 或者Home attracts people because of a simple and timeless reason.翻译成中文就是家有很强的吸引力的原因很简单却亘古不变。这个简单的原因就是上一句：家有回忆和爱，所以人们原意回家。
【篇章逻辑】最后一句是引起下一段，同时承接了上文，把话题从个人小家庭转向城市——人类社会大家庭。
下面几段讲了女王去医院慰问受伤的小朋友和父母，主题是赞扬鼓励民众。句子不难理解，语言点有in the face of、had the privilege of 、an example to us和bravery and resilience，也很简单。
This Christmas, I think of London and Manchester, whose powerful identities shone through over the past 12 months, in the face of appalling （令人震惊的）attacks. In Manchester, those targeted included children who had gone to see their favourite singer.
A few days after the bombing, I had the privilege （有幸）of meeting some of the young survivors and their parents. I described that hospital visit as a privilege because the patients I met were an example to us all, showing extraordinary bravery and resilience （韧劲，适应能力）. Indeed, many of those who survived the attack came together just days later for a benefit concert. It was a powerful reclaiming of the ground and of the city those young people call home.
