Question:

Some people believe that air travel should be restricted because it causes serious pollution and uses up the world’s fuel resources. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Answer:

According to the latest researches / surveys carried out by several internationally renowned organizations and committees, aviation has been defied as one of the major contributors to a series of severe crises. The solid role that the airplanes have played in generating environmental pollutions and resource shortages suggests / indicates that it is high time to put an end to its problems.

The threats, including global warming, marine pollution, air pollution, noise pollution and soil contamination, posed by aircrafts are beyond measurement, making it more apparent / appealing / persuasive that a halt should be put to those items. It is an open secret that greenhouse gas emissions peaked over the last few decades as a consequence of the widespread use of flying devices when they are employed to carry passengers across the borders. Trillions of cubic meters of greenhouse gases are released into the Earth’s atmosphere each year, being left unattended to / without any proper treatments given. Increased atmospheric carbon dioxide levels alter Earth’s radiative equilibrium and force the temperature to rise or fall dramatically. According to the latest Assessment Report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, "atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide are unprecedented in at least the last 800,000 years”, which is extremely likely to have been the dominant cause of the observed warming since the mid-20th century on a global scale.

Worse even, resource shortages bred by the overwhelming flock of airborne machines that consumed a large proportion of the non-renewable energy resources, unfortunately, are not yet classified / identified / issued as top priorities by most federal governments. Despite the extensive media coverage of the alarming damages that planes have done to our planet, most data represented in those reports served as a trigger for public concern, instead of telling the truth. / Despite the fact that mass media have made sufficient exposure of the alarming damages that planes have done to our planet available to the public, they failed to cast light upon (on) the truth. / provide people with illumination. Most  people are kept in the dark about a vast majority of crude oil being wasted during the process of producing standard aviation gasoline and jet fuel, which means that it should have been utilized more appropriately for the benefits of both terrestrial and aquatic lives and properties (assets /  materials).

In a nutshell, it is self-explanatory that no matter how few people are aware of the hazards that we are facing as a collective race and how little we have based our thinking on the long-term interest of the planet, measures should be taken to prevent airplanes from creating more environment-oriented and resource-related problems, even at the cost of economic developments brought about by the intercontinental flows of tourists and business personnels on the jets.
