Otus and Ephialtes were a rare kind of giant. They were handsome. They stood tall. They were full of charm and grace. These twin giants were the sons of Neptune, god of the sea. Otus and Ephialtes were the nephews of Jupiter, the gods' king.
The two young giants thought the world of themselves. They believed that they were better than the gods. They played pranks on the gods from a young age.
“Ephialtes thinks the best way to capture a prisoner is to bind him with rope and bury him in a hole," said Otus.
"But Otus thinks the best way to capture a prisoner is to bind him with iron and tie him to a tree," he said.
Mars showed them his special prison. It was a sealed room with no windows or doors. He showed them how to wrap a prisoner in chains of brass that would never unravel or rust.
That night, when Mars was asleep, the twins secretly and silently wrapped him in his own brass chains. Then the dragged him across the room and threw him into his very own prison.
Mars lay there in prison in despair. He was ashamed and surprised that mere mortals had gotten the best of him, a god. He did not know what to do.
Otus and Ephialtes laughed wildly the whole way home.
