BORN A CRIME- Day 5

PART 1- 3句

1, For starts, despite the fact that black people made up 80 percent of South Africa's population, the territory allocated for the homelands was about 13 percent of the country's land.

2, But as shitty as our car was, it was a car.

3, The thing that always amazed me about her life was that no one showed her. No one chose her. She did it on her own. She found her way through sheer force of will.

PART 2- 3词

1, camouflage (n&v)

Half-colored and half-black, she figured, like us. We'd be camouflaged there.

英文释义: to hide sth, especially by making it look the same as the things around it, or by making it seem like something else:

camouflage sth with sth

例句:During the war, the soldiers usually were camouflaged with leaves.

2, fanfare

原文:There was none of the fanfare of a picnic basket or plates or anything like that, only baloney and brown bread and margarine sandwiches wrapped up in butcher paper.

I have to say it doesn't bother me in the slightest, bacause I prefer to start out without too much fanfare.

3, knockoff

She came home with some knockoff brand, Abidas.

PART 3-  The Second Girl

No one showed her. No one chose her. She did it on her own. She found her way through sheer force of will.

As mondestly as we lived at home, I never felt poor because our lives were so rich with experience."

PART 4- Summary

After reading the first five chapters, I have known that Trevor was born to black and white parents during aparthied, which meant he was born a crime. And apartheid also kept hom away from his fathers, sometimes even his mother. For his safety, most of his childhood was indoors, reading books, playing with toy, and making up imaginary worlds.

His mother was a woman full of intelligence, she taught Trevor English, read books, and led him see the world. Growing up the way he did, he learned how to use different languages to protect himself and had wider horizons.

Needless to say, life is not always easy, but it is not all that complicated either. Just as Trevor's mother siad, "Let the pian sharpen you, but don't hold on to it."
