People especially mothers often decide to stay at home to look after their family instead of going to work. Do you think government should pay them the salary for it?
It is true that having someone stay at home to take care of babies and old parents is necessary and some of mothers quit their jobs to do that. Some people argue that it should be paid by government, but I completely disagree with this point of view.
Payment from government regarding home staying could be supported in two main reasons. Firstly, daily expense is increasing dramatically and without salary from work, the family will be under extreme pressure to pay huge mortgage, kids tuition fee, and all other kinds of bills. Those mothers who decide to quit jobs in order to look after their family probably are too poor to hire a nanny. Without enough support from government, the family will go down to another level of financial crisis. Secondly, it's not an easy decision for women who are ambious about their career. With such a big sacrifice made, these mothers would like to get some compensation from government.
Even with above argument, I still believe that money from government is not the best solution. On the one hand, every member in the family should take responsibilities taking care of each other and each woman could at least try to find balance between work and family. It'll create more understanding between husband and wife since couples are in the money making and family caring together. On the other hand, if the money could be earned only by staying at home, more and more women would be willing to send out their resignation letters, and then the gender gap in the work environment is going to get larger, which is not an ideal sign of future enterprise structure.
In conclusion, while there are some arguments supporting home-staying mothers getting paid by government, I would argue that the disavanges of that action outweight the benefits in the long term.
