不得不说这本书的开篇,前言部分的开头第一句很赞:
She was the scientist's favorite participant.
她是科学家最喜欢的研究对象。简简单单一句话吊足了读者的兴趣。通过讲述这个叫 Lisa 的女人,抽烟酗酒,长期与肥胖症做斗争,工作从来不超过一年,动辄借债度日......这种种的不良习惯最终使得她婚姻破裂,down 到谷底后反弹,先是用跑步代替烟瘾,之后又逐步改变饮食、工作、睡眠、储蓄等习惯,四年后的她已然今非昔比。研究人员扫描她的大脑图像时发现,原来旧习惯在大脑中形成的神经模式,已被新习惯所替代。
作者借 Lisa 这个十分生活化的案例 “抛砖引玉”,道出本书主题&结构,分别从个人、公司、社会三个层面来讲述习惯运作的原理,以及最重要的一点 -- 习惯是可以被改变的。

max out sth:短语动词,美式英语,口语,表示 “超出极限”,to reach an upper limit;
例句:I maxed out my Visa. [我刷爆卡了]
例句:The car maxed out at 100 mph. [=the car could go no faster than 100 mph]
2、It was pitch black inside her hotel room.
pitch black = pitch-black,形容词,表示 “漆黑一片”,completely black or dark
例句:The lights were off and it was pitch-black.
