Haloalkanes (or alkyl halides) are carbon compounds in which one or more hydrogen atoms in an alkane has/have been replaced by halogen atom(s).
HaloalkaneSystematic Naming
Physical Properties
Haloalkanes have higher boiling points than alkanes. The boiling point of haloalkanes increases with the length of the hydrocarbon chain and the size of the halogen atom.
Haloalkanes with shorter carbon chains are slightly soluble in water, and that with longer carbon chains are insoluble in water but soluble in most non-polar solvents.
