Today I feel so honored to be here and witness the performance of the 10 finalists of our fellow toastmasters from all over the world. It is so entertaining, touching, informative and inspirational.
I will just share with you some of the messages that I've learnt from these top 10 speakers.
1, The Right Words
She talked about domestic violence is not just physical but also mental. People are suffering more domestic violence that we imagine. Maybe we or someone we love are suffering it. It's very important to let ourselves and our beloved ones know that we care and we are there to help becauseLOVE IS THE ONLY VOCABULARY TO CONQUER EVERYTHING!
2, The Greatest Superpower by Sherwood Jones
He was talking about he likes comic since childhood and he always wished that he would have the superpower of being invisible. But when he grew up, it would be so cruel and hurting that being ignored or unseen by others. And then he realized that he has done many things to ignore others too. Therefore, he urged us to use our superpower to recognize other people as an individual, and appreciating their indpendent thoughts and valuable ideas.SEE AND MAKE OTHER VISIBLE!
3, I Will Be There by Josephine Lee
She talked about her best friend Jenna who was always there for her when she needs any help. But as time went by, their friendship fell apart because she didn't make any time for Jenna. When she found out that Jenna got married but didn't invite her, she felt so sorry and then she reached out for Jenna again. They became friends again and then she shared this idea that I WILL BE THERE will make any relationship work through.
4, Recalculating by Kim Kaufman
She talked about how lost she was when she started her career as a salesgirl and then one day, when she was trying to sell something to a barber. That old guy gave her wisdom: THE JOY IS IN THE JOURNEY! There are many roads to destinations, no matter short or long, twisted or straight, every journey is magnificient with boundless possibilities. Therefore, she used a metaphor of recalculating from GPS, we can always recalculate our life.
5, Outsmart Outlast by Darren Tay
He was talking about that he got bullied a lot when he was little and he was always running away from it. When he grew up, he finally realized that the greatest bully is not from others, but from oneself, just as the saying goes: the greatest enemy is oneself! Therefore, he urged us to FACE IT, STAND UP AND BEAT IT!
6, Permission Granted by Elliot Eddie
He talked about how he pursued his dream of producing his own movie and spreaded this message: DON'T WAIT SOMEONE'S PERMISSION TO LIVE YOUR DREAMS! YOU SHALL WORK ON YOUR DREAMS and get permission granted by yourself! ACTION!
7, What's Wrong with You by Kashika Rodrigo
She quoted Michael Angelo that Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it. And the best sculptor to do that is ourselves. Even though sometimes people don't understand us, we may tell ourselves that WE ARE A MASTERPIECE IN PROCESS!
8, Aaron Beverly
His title is too long but very contrast to his topic. His message is that saying more things doesn't mean more people will hear you. It's better to say something that really counts! A few words will make a difference and touch one's heart!
9, Learn to Live it by Donny Crandell
He talked about the imperfections in life-we may not have a great past, but it doesn't mean we won't have an awesome future. Try listen and accept the strength and weakness of life.
10, The Audience of One by Katina Hunter
She basically talked about we are all ordinary people and somehow we are giving speeches all the time in our daily life. We may not get any trophy when we give our ordinary speeches, but it may change someone else's life. And maybe the best speech is in our daily life just as she told her son "I will never be mad at you when you made the right decision" when her son broke her favourite chess set and confessed it with fear.
And guess who wins!?
Hope you all like the ideas they shared:)
