Have you ever read the famous book the Analects of Confucius? This book have transformed many people’s live as they have claimed. The rituals it talks about are meaningful. We inherit the essence and make them normal. However, do rituals always do good to people?

According to Chinese tradition, children are supposed to regard parents’ words as authority. However, it may make children compliant and lessindependent. For example, after five-day study, students want to have a rest on Friday night , such as playing games or watching dramas. But parents don’t give the permission. Only after finishing homework can students take a break. At this time, student would complete the homework in depression, even with anger. As time goes by, children may depend on everything parents say and may not know how to deal with problems themselves.
China education attaches importance to collectivism, but this will restrict the personality development of students. For instance, running in the playground every morning is one of my school’s routines. I’m fed up with it from time to time. Why don’t we have something much more flexible and diverse? There are large amounts of choices such as basketball, volleyball, Latin dance and so on. If the school transfers the convention into various activities, will it be wonderful for student’s personality development? By putting them into practice, I think our education can be more instructive.
As the old saying goes, ”Ritual is the spirit of human being’s progress.” Nonetheless, by experiencing many circumstances so far, I realize that some of the Confucian’s teachings are not dynamic. It is good to be collective and filial, nevertheless, in the current society, some part of the rituals can’t adapt to the growing development. People may become obedient and lose their characteristics. To conclude, people should be critical about rituals, absorbing what is best and forgoing what is old-fashioned.
