Introduction to Girls’ Power

Girls’ Power is a non-governmental organization which aim to help young and poor girls to get education. 

The Reason for Founding Girls’ Power

Ananya is a 12-year-old girl in Africa. I and my fellow volunteers had a short encounter with her during a trip earlier.

Ananya stopped experiencing education from ten years old and married a man that aged over fifty. Ananya’s friends all have similar experiences; they didn’t know it was wrong, and some of them are even feeding kids already. Ananya herself have already become two children’s mother, and when she was asked “you are too young to leave the school, do you want to go back to classes”, she answered, “some of my friends got married even earlier than me. I should look forward to them and take good care of my children; I’m already 12 years old.” And when answering the question “do you like your present life”, she said, “it’s meaningless. I can do nothing about my situation.”

To help girls like Ananya, Girls’ Power is set. After dealing with Ananya and her friends’ husbands, now they can go to school with their children six hours every day. The change is tiny to make Ananya and her friends normal comparing to either girls in other countries or boys in their country, however, they are very happy and learned a lot already, for example, they have now realized that children from every country should go to school, not only girls, but also boys.

For the Future

Girls’ power aim to help girls like Ananya to change their lives. It will be a long way, but we will try our best to help.
