Listen to elders and you can’t go wrong
心思太多，琐事也会随之增多；
Thinking too much can lead to many trivial pursuits.
琐事一多，最后大多不能善始善终；
Being overly involved makes it less likely you will succeed in any of them.
若不能善始善终，则不但于己有害，也会招致别人的嘲笑。
Constant failure will make you a laughingstock and bring benefit to no one.
所以，不要让心思和琐事太多，是我的忠告。
Therefore, it is my heartfelt advice that you not think too much or engage in too many trivialities.
年轻人教育老年人不合情理，但老一辈教诲下一辈却应当应分。
While it is not generally expected that the young teach the elders, it is very appropriate for the older generation to educate the younger generation.
藏地著名大德土观·洛桑却吉尼玛，为了利益年轻人，曾写过一篇《世间规之忠言》。我特将此翻译出来，与大家分享：
An eminent Tibetan master, Lobsang Chökyi Nyima, in order to benefit the young, wrote an articleHeartfelt Advice on Worldly Codes of Conduct.* I’d like to share with you my translation of it:
1. 心地正直固然很好，但如果过于正直，在此污浊不堪的末法时代，就会像乞讨者的猴子般被人戏弄。
1. It is undoubtedly good to be righteous but if one is too righteous in this defiled time of degeneration, one will be ridiculed by others, just like a beggar’s monkey.
因此，把握好正直的尺度，是我的忠告。
Therefore, it is my heartfelt advice to be careful of the extent of your righteousness.
2. 能说会道、能言善辩固然很好，但如果何时何地都口无遮拦，滔滔不绝地夸夸其谈，那自己内在的一切，就会被别人一览无遗。
2. It is not bad to be articulate, eloquent and persuasive, but if one talks endlessly at any time and place, then everything about oneself will be laid bare to others.
因此，把握好说话的分寸，是我的忠告。
Therefore, it is my heartfelt advice to be careful of the extent of your speech.
3. 韬光养晦、大智若愚固然很好，
3. It is obviously good to be wise but appear slow-witted, concealing one’s abilities and biding one’s time.
但如果过于保持缄默，任谁都不知道自己内在的智慧，就会像暗暗涌动、却不为人知的甘泉般不起作用。
But if you keep quiet too much, nobody will be able to find your wisdom; you’ll be like a hidden fountain that does not quench anyone’s thirst.
因此，把握好外显与内敛的尺度，是我的忠告。
Therefore, it is my heartfelt advice to be careful of the balance between expression and reservation.
4. 虽然世人都说嫉恶如仇很好，
4. Although worldly people say it is good to hate people who are evil.
但如果经常无缘无故地发起强烈的无名火，就会像看门狗一样，与所有人结仇。
But if you always get enraged without good reason, you will become everybody’s enemy just like an aggressive watchdog.
因此，不要轻易动怒，是我的忠告。
Therefore, it is my heartfelt advice to avoid losing your temper easily.
5. 嘴甜心善固然很好，
5. It is undoubtedly good to have sweet speech and a good heart.
但在这个好人不受待见、坏人称王称霸的时代，过分善良软弱却会被人蔑视与欺辱。
However, in this time when good people are not always fully appreciated and deluded people dominate the world, excessive kindness and weakness can cause scorn and insult.
因此，掌握好软弱与强硬的分寸，是我的忠告。
Therefore, it is my heartfelt advice to find the appropriate balance between softness and toughness.
6. 不贪钱财固然很好，但在这个不名一文的乞丐会遭所有人唾弃、大户人家的走狗却被奉为上宾的时代，适当地积攒一些财物，是我的忠告。
6. It is undoubtedly very good to not lust after wealth but in this age when penniless beggars are spurned by everybody and the pets of plutocrats are treated as distinguished guests, it is my heartfelt advice to appropriately save some money.
7. 短斤少两、不讲诚信的奸商行为，会搅得整个国家都不得安宁。
7. Business conducted dishonestly—giving short measures and cheating customers—can disturb the peace of a whole country.
摈弃贪求暴利、实则无义之不良经营方式，君子积财，取之以道，是我的忠告。
Therefore, it is my heartfelt advice to accumulate wealth through proper means and abandon wrong business approaches driven by the desire for excessive profits.
8. 善于理财固然很好，但如果一毛不拔、吝啬成性，就会众叛亲离、于己不利，像守护宝藏的饿鬼一般孤立无援。
8. It is all right to be good at saving money but if one is too miserly and unwilling to spend a penny, relatives and friends will go away and people will betray this kind of person, leaving one feeling isolated and helpless like a ghost guarding treasure.
因此，掌握好积财与施舍的尺度，是我的忠告。
Therefore, it is my heartfelt advice to be careful of the balance between saving money and offering it.
9. 朋友众多、交际广泛固然很好，但秉性恶劣的朋友却会把自己引向邪路，最终毁坏自他，以致双双坠入洪流般的险境。
9. It is undoubtedly good to be sociable and have many friends but wicked friends can be destructive, leading you and others astray, eventually destroying you and others. The result puts both in a dangerous situation, like falling into a river together.
因此，交往的朋友不要搞错，是我的忠告。
So, it is my heartfelt advice to be careful when making friends.
10. 无喜无忧、心态如如不动的人虽然很少，
10. Very few people can be constantly carefree and not affected emotionally by situations.
但若过于喜怒无常，就会遭人轻视、唾弃，以致失却友伴。
However, if one is too moody, one will be spurned by others or even lose friends and companions.
因此，保持心境的相对稳定，是我的忠告。
Therefore, it is my heartfelt advice to keep a relatively stable mind.
11. 如果对信任、投靠自己的亲友，都暗中算计，毫无怜悯之心，像野狗一样不知好歹，这种对投靠者都敢欺哄吓诈的人，就是所谓的无愧者。
11. To mercilessly plot against and deceive friends or relatives, who trust and take refuge in you, is to be like a wild dog that has no idea of right and wrong. It is to be a shameless person.
因此，知耻有愧、值得信赖，是我的忠告。
Therefore, it is my heartfelt advice to have shame and be reliable.
12. 当面吹捧赞叹、阿谀奉承，背后说三道四、指责过失，当面一套背后一套，一张嘴巴吐出两根舌头，就像毒蛇一样可恶。
12. Those who flatter and praise people but criticize them behind their backs are being two-faced and just as vicious as poisonous snakes with forked tongues that protrude when they open their mouths.
因此，人前人后都不要说得太多，是我的忠告。
Therefore, it is my heartfelt advice not to talk too much, either in front of people or behind their backs.
13. 凡事都唯唯诺诺、点头称是，事后也言出必行的人十分罕见。
13. It is very rare for people to always say yes to every request and then keep their promises.
答应得越爽快，就越容易弃之脑后或拒不执行。
The more readily one promises something, the easier it is to forget or renege on that promise.
所以，不要随便相信那些轻易承诺的人，是我的忠告。
Therefore, it is my heartfelt advice not to easily trust those who always eagerly make promises.
14. 心思太多，琐事也会随之增多；
14. Thinking too much can lead to many trivial pursuits.
琐事一多，最后大多不能善始善终；
Being overly involved makes it less likely you will succeed in any of them.
若不能善始善终，则不但于己有害，也会招致别人的嘲笑。

15. 受到众人恭敬时，要把握住自己；

三地满愿犹如如意宝，十地自在尊前敬礼赞。
地地引导增进至佛地，地精药谷庄稼恒增长，
此地众多财宝悉充满，圣尊地藏王前敬礼赞。
妙瓶如意树及圆劫云，甘露大海若谁忆念您，
赐彼圆满吉祥善住者，大悲为体尊前敬礼赞。
拥有浩瀚诸佛及佛子，胜德虚空藏者唯一您，
无尽刹中示现菩萨相，护持所有佛业尊前礼。
