“Just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many." --Matthew 20:28
Jesus said that He was among us as one who serves. Paul also had the same views with Jesus on the serving.” For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus' sake.”
We have the idea that a man called to the pastor is called to a different kind of being from other men. According to Jesus Christ, he was called to be the “door-mat” of other men. It equals that he would become the spiritual leader, but not to be their boss. Paul said that he knew how to be abased. This is Paul’s idea of service. -“I will spend myself to the last ebb for you; you may give me praise or give me blame, it will make no difference.” So long as there was one people not to know Jesus Christ, Paul owed his debt and he would serve him until the people knew Lord. The biggest motivation of Paul’s serving was not for loving people, but loving the Lord. If we sacrifice for human happiness, we will face the heartbreak quickly to retrogress, because people is ungrateful easily. However, if our motivation is for God, no matter other people is so cold as marble, no one can’t stop us serving with each other.
Paul experienced how Jesus served him, which made him decide to serve people. “Even though I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and a man of violence. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief.” No matter how people treated him, which was absolutely less than he dealt with Jesus using the insulting behaviors in the past. When we realize that Jesus has served us to the end of our meanness, our selfishness, and sin, nothing that we meet with from others can exhaust our determination to serve men for his sake.
