诗词西韵 (43) A remorse of an emperor 贺新郎 玄宗忆贵妃

Waking up from a long night on the way

To a remote city in  great dismay

Darkness surrounded him with much anxiety

Emperor of the great Tang dynasty

Since he escaped the invaded capital

He abandoned his most adorable

His most beloved was hanged to pacify

Generals on whom he had to rely

Now his lover was gone

His exile still dragged on

Who might comfort his soul

The sweet sachet she had bestowed

Recalling the first time they met

A purple skirt, elegant steps

Her voice pleasant as the music

Her face was beautiful as tulip

She was intelligent and full of wit

Her smile captivated him in a pit

Of love and indulgence

And captured all his attention

He built her an exclusive hot spring pool

Gave her time, honors and jewel

She loved the fruit of the deep south

And it was delivered fresh to her mouth

The true love for her and her families

By the emperor sparked off jealousy

From both 'allies' and foreign enemies

At risk was the empire's legacy

A rebellious general invaded

The palace. Things became more complicated

Though the emperor escaped the arrows

Of the rebels, he faced wrath and sorrow

His royal generals demanded

His most beloved be reprimanded

And be hanged as the death grievance

And they would keep their allegiance

The emperor gave in to the pressure

But at the end he lost all his treasure

The power, the wealth, the proud, and his love

Now he wrapped himself in a mourning glove

How good was it to be an emperor

If he couldn't protect his true lover

Who could accompany him through his life

Even an old farmer had his own wife

梦断巴山路，夜沉沉，香囊尚在，银铃何处？遗恨西来胭脂坠, 对影唏嘘旦暮。忆初见, 紫裙莲步。声脆如莺歌舞醉。智机灵,秒语连珠吐。云鬓乱，后宫妒。

温泉水暖山含露，荔枝甜，南国驿送，色泽如故。昨夜胡人飞天箭，仓促离京入蜀。马嵬树，香消谁诉？流落帝王情难续。羡青衣，白发相扶助。谁伴我，汲晨露？
