A review of the Stolen White Ele

The world is full of fog, behind those seemingly simple things, there may be another hole in the sky, and whether the world is bright or dark depends entirely on the human heart.

First reading Mark Twain's short story The Stolen White Elephant, I read a story of "black humor" triggered by a white elephant: "I", who worked in Siam, was responsible for escorting a very precious white elephant to England as a gift of reconciliation at that time.

When he passed through the United States, he accidentally lost it, so Inspector Blunt and his detectives offered a reward of 100,000 pounds to find it. In the next few days, telegrams were sent back to report the "food" and "trouble" of the elephant. Detectives were frantically arresting the "suspects" who had already died. False reports were overwhelming. Finally, the body of the white elephant was "found" in the place where the detectives ate, lived, played and slept. "I" was not only dismissed, but also paid all my belongings of 142000 pounds.

It's a funny story to read, but after reading, I seem a little confused. What message does the author want to convey to readers when he writes this exaggerated and legendary story?

The second time I read this book, I found that it was not just a novel to amuse everyone. Behind the story of the white elephant is the "hundred phases" of life.

In his novels,Mark Twain satirized and attacked all kinds of abuses and evils in social life. Inspector Brent ordered his detectives to "look for" white elephants everywhere and attribute all criminal acts to white elephants, which was full of stupidity and selfishness. But the newspaper sees the wind to make the rudder, the false report, the speculation is particularly laughable, irresponsible, they may be said to have no independent thinking.The ability to infer and select.  What about the citizens? "I" is a representative who is deceived by Inspector Brent, which not only foreshadows the sad result of the following text, but also shows the deep-rooted bad habits of the people, who only blindly believe in those shameless detectives, but are deceived without knowing it.

Russian writer Leo Tolstoy once said, "There is no greatness without simplicity, goodness and truth." Society needs people who are wise, firm and loyal, and needs an atmosphere of truth, selflessness and kindness.

The death of the white elephant shows that evil and deception will eventually be eliminated, and truth and honesty are the eternal spiritual wealth of mankind, because people need warmth, and the source of warmth lies in love and virtue. And those who flatter will not be trusted, will be spurned, will be lonely and will not be pitied. Kindness, trust and sincerity are the basis for people to get along with each other.

Rereading classics can help us learn to think and distinguish. Let us create legends with truth and write life with kindness and sincerity!
