昨天还漏了一句:
The first time he had been sent beyond, all the old stories had come rushing back, and his bowels had turned to water.
大意很好理解，就是his bowels had turned to water这一句不太明白，也查不到，刚开始以为是恶心的意思(现在想恶心应该和胃有关，怎么会跟肠子有关？) 后来在Quora上问了一下native speakers才搞明白，其中一个回答解释的很清楚了:
“It means that, due to fear, he suddenly started producing liquid diahorrea, or felt as if he was going to do that. George R.R probably doesn’t mean that he suddenly ran and squatted behind a bush, or shat in his socks, but just that he felt nervous and afraid.” (by Ronald Turnbull，a writer on hillwalking)
这样解释确实要合理的多，有的同学就有一紧张(比如考试前)就总想上厕所的毛病。哈哈。
His cloak was his crowning glory; sable, thick and black and soft as sin.
crowning glory:the greatest or most beautiful part of something. 这个短语颇有我们常说的‘’***是***王冠上的明珠‘’的意味，考虑到前面一直在说他的wardrobe,因此这前半句是说，他的斗篷是全身上下最耀眼的(行头)。
(as-) as sin:having a particular undesirable quality to a high degree. 也就是说程度非常之高的意思，不过通常用来形容某种不好(undesirable:not wanted, approved of or popular )的性质。
The camp is two miles farther on, over that ridge, hard beside a stream.
试译一下:营地在两英里以外，越过那道山脊，紧挨着一条小溪。
这一句不知道怎么说，体会一下on和hard的用法吧。
Despite himself, he shivered.
despite oneself:不由自主。(If you do something despite yourself, you do it although you do not want to or although you know you should not.)
What was the man driving at?
=what someone is really trying to say 这个人到底想说什么？
be driving at:to attempt to say

难在would not have given an iron bob for the lordling’s life这一句要怎么理解。bob作名词，在Britain 英语中，有一个意思是a shilling，也就是一个先令，因此，这句话大意是说:
虽然盖瑞的剑不长，也不怎么漂亮，剑柄已然被汗水蚀去颜色，剑刃也历经战斗多有凹痕，但只要盖瑞拔剑出鞘，威尔绝不会掏一个子儿打赌这位罗伊斯大人还能活命。
后面罗伊斯同异鬼的一场战斗很精彩，牵动人心，可以一口气读完，就不要再查词了，哈哈。
