The occasions and types of gifts

In most cases, when I am invited to attend someone’s private family dinner, it’s a basic etiquette to bring some gifts, such as flowers, fruits or the tradition food from my hometown and so on. If the family has children, buying plaything or candies is also a good choice.

In other situations, if I have an invitation for celebrating the wedding of my classmates or relatives, I usually prepare for the art wares or the ornaments for them. Sometimes, I maybe send flowers or some practical items per their usual daily needs. If I don’t know how to buy gifts for them, it is common that I directly give them money. It is noteworthy that the money I give must be wrapped with a red pocket. In this way, my presents look more formal and perfect.

About preparing for gifts, there is a remind I’d like to tell everyone that when we give the precious gifts to a person whom we have shared a close relationship, we can’t give the presents to them on the public to avoid other gossip. Only the gifts we give meaning “Courtesy light Affective heavy” are suitable for giving to the recipients in the presence of the public.

In china, we should study many knowledges about traditions on sending the gifts. Strictly speaking, we must choice different gifts carefully per different recipients and different purposes. Sometimes, we also pay more attention to the recipients’ character, status and their tastes to purchase the gifts. If the recipient is a career-oriented person, he will be perfectly satisfied if the gifts mean that he can gain an immediate victory. When we prepare for some gifts for our elders, we’d better to buy some presents with health and fitness. Similarly, if the recipient is a businessman, we should send some handicrafts which have special meanings with booming business. The kind of gifts surely makes him “eyebrow open smile”.
