My New Year’s resolution for 2017

许一个新年愿望吧

Today is the first day of the Year of the Rooster, and it is the best time for us to make another New Year's resolution. Resolution here means "a promise to yourself to do something". Students can say to their parents "I made a resolution to work harder at school". A New Year's resolution usually refers to a resolution made on January 1st to stop your bad habits or do things that are good. But since I didn't make one at the beginning of this month, I think I deserve a second chance when the Lunar New year starts.
今天是鸡年的第一天，这是我们做另一个新年承诺的最佳时机。Resolution在这里的意思是“让自己做某事的承诺”。学生可以对他们的父母说“我决心在学校努力学习”。一个新年承诺通常是指在1月1日制定的、停止你的坏习惯或开始做正确的事的承诺。但是，由于我在本月初没有做新年承诺，我认为当农历新年开始我应该有第二次机会。

Most people would set a goal like "reading 100 books throughout the new year"; however, I am not able to stick to the plan even if I make a resolution like that. And even if I can fulfill the promise to myself, I don't think I can remember most of these books, which will be disappointing and frustrating. Instead, I consider my New Year’s resolution for 2017 should be to "solve 100 problems", problems such as "how to pacify my baby when she cries" or "how to acquire the habit of meditation to become more aware of my own thought process".
大多数人会设定一个目标，例如“在新年里一年读100本书”；然而，我并不能坚持执行计划，即使我做出这样的承诺。即使我可以履行对自己的承诺，我并不认为我可以记得这些书中的大部分内容，这将是令人失望和沮丧的。相反，我认为我2017年的新年承诺应该是“解决100个问题”，比如“如何安抚我的宝贝当她哭泣时”，或者“如何养成冥想的习惯，从而对自己的思维过程变得更加有意识”。

The reason why I think the latter resolution outweighs the former one is it is more practical. After all, the human mind is problem-driven, which means you will get more motivated when there are questions in your mind. In that way, you can read purposefully and remember what you read more vividly.
之所以我认为后者承诺胜过前者，是因为它更实际可行。毕竟，人类的思想是问题驱动的，这意味着当你心中有问题时，你会更有积极性。这样，你就可以有目的地阅读，并且更清楚地记住你所阅读的内容。
