When Chou Enlai’s door opened they saw aslender man of more than average height with gleaming eyes and a face so striking that it bordered on the beautiful . Yet it was a manly face, serious and intelligent, and Chu judged him to be in his middle twenties.
Chou was aquiet and thoughtful man ,even a little shy as he welcomed his visitors , urged them to be seated and to tell how he could help them.
Ignoring the chair offered him , Chu The stoodsquarelybefore this youth more than ten years his junior and in a level voice told him who he was, what he had done in the past, how he had fled from Yunnan, talked with Sun Yat-sen, beenrepulsedby Chen Tu-Hsiu in Shanghai , and had come to Europe to find a new way of life for himself and a new revolutionary road for China.

二十年来，我的生活中至少十分之一二是消耗在书上的，我的房子里比较贵重的东西就是书。
我一向没有对任何问题做高深研究的野心，因此所买的书范围较广，宗教，艺术，文学，社会， 哲学，历史，生物各方差不多都有一点。最多的是各国文学名著的译本与本国自古以来的诗文集。别的门类只是一些概论入门的入门书而已。
For twenty years past , I have spent at least 10-20 percent of my living expenses on books . Now the only thing of some value under my roof, if any , are my books.
Since I have never entertained ambition for making a profound study of any subject，the books I have acquired cover almost everthing—religion ,art , literature ,sociology, philosophy, history ,biology, etc, Most of them are Chinese translations of literary works by famous foreign writers and anthologies of Chinese poetry and prose through the ages, the rest, often called an outline or induction ,are merely on rudiments of various subjects.
