At that moment a strange cracking sound came from inside the statue,as if something had broken.The fact is that the Prince's iron heart had broken in two.It certainly was as very cold day.
这时候，从雕像体内传出一声奇怪的破裂声，好像是某个东西碎了。事实上是王子的铁心碎成了两半。那天是非常冷的一天。
Early the next morning the Mayor was walking in the city square,along with some of his colleagues.As they passed the column,the Mayor looked up at the statue."Dear me!How bad the Happy Prince looks today!"he said.
第二天一大早，市长在城市广场散步，身后跟着他的同事们。当他经过柱子的时候，市长抬头向上看了看雕像。“哇塞，幸福王子今天看起来多么糟糕！”他叫道。
"Very bad,indeed!"agreed his colleagues,who always agreed with the Mayor.They all went up to get a closer
look at it.

“The ruby has fallen out of his sword,his eyes are gone,and he is no longer gloden,"said the Mayor."He looks no better than a beggar!"

"No better than a beggar!"agreed his colleagues.

"And there is even a dead bird at his feet!"continued the Mayor."We must really make a public announcement that birds are not allowed to die here."And his colleagues all wrote a note about the Mayor's suggestion.

So they pulled down the statue of the Happy Prince."He is no longer beautiful,so he is neither beautiful nor useful,"the Mayor announced to the public.

After the Mayor had spoken,they melted down the statue,and a public meeting was held to decide what was to be done with the metal."We must build another statue,of course,"said the Mayor,"and it will be a statue of myself."

"Of myself,"said each of his colleagues,and they argued.When they were last heard of,the were still arguing.

"What a strange thing!"said the worker who melted down the statue."This broken iron heart will not melt.We must throw it away."So he threw it on a trash pile,where the dead Swallow was also lying。

But this was not the end of story.The Angles had seen everything.They had watched the Happy Prince and the Swallow.They had seen the good that they had done.And that is why when God said to one of his Angels,"Bring me the two most precious things int the city."The Angel brought Him the iron heart and the dead bird.
"You have chosen correctly,"said God,"In my garden of Paradise,this little bird will sing until the end of time,and in my city of gold,the Happy Prince will praise me."
但是这不是故事的结尾。天使们看到了一切。他们看到了幸福王子和小燕子。他们也看到了他们所做的好事。这也是为什么当上帝对他们其中一个天使说：“将这个城市中最珍贵的两样东西带给我。”的时候，他们将铁心和死去的鸟带了过来。
