Reaction
1. Place some dilute acid which contains the anion in the soluble salt going to be prepared in a beaker.
2. Using a spatula, add the oxide of the salt's cation's element, a little a time, to the dilute acid. Stir the reaction mixture with a glass rod. Heat the reaction mixture gentle if the reaction is slow.
3. Continue the addition until some zinc oxide remains undissolved. At this stage, all the acid has reacted and is turned into the soluble salt wanted.
Separation
4. Filter off the excess oxide. The filtrate is the solution of the soluble salt. (If not, change the reaction to make sure it is. )
Purification
5. Heat the solution to evaporate about half of the water.
6. Leave the concentrated solution aside to cool slowly at room temperature. The crystal of the salt will form after some time.
7. Filter the remaining solution to obtain the crystals.
8. Wash the crystals with a little cold distilled water.
9. Dry the crystals using filter paper or oven.
