Today is the International Women's Day. It was set up to promote women's equality by the United Nation. Historically, women is considered the "weaker" demographic group than the men's. But in my opinion, women are probably weaker only physically. In the modern world, physical strength is hardly the most dominate factor in any competition for survival and thrive, the mental power is.
I am in the Engineering consulting business. In my personal experience, our company hired model new female engineering graduates from colleges than males in recent years. So much so that the branch manager, who's a woman, was getting concerned and said, " we can't have all girls in our offices, it's not good for marketing." She'd even asked us to pay special attentions to male engineering candidates in company recruiting.
This trend doesn't only happen in the U.S.. On another example, one of my friends and former colleagues who's an engineering professor in a Chinese university asked me to be a guest professor on the review committee for his graduate students. He had 19 graduate students who would present their thesis and try to obtain their masters degree in engineering in that academic year. 17 out the group were girls. What a outrageous percentage!
Would you still think women are lack of mental strength than men? You know what I am thinking? I think we should have had an International Men's Day by now. Because, not only women have achieved equality at the workplaces, they have dominated most of the households. Just look at your own relationship to your wife, or girlfriend, or your partner at home.
