how and what to learn in the tim

    Good afternoon everyone.

    Today, my speech is about how and what to learn in the time of ai.

    I guess most of us are deeply attracted by a dog called“AlphaGo”. It was 4 wins and 1 loss in the confrontation with the top players of the human chess. Some friends around me started to pay attention to artificial intelligence. Others began to worry about our human intelligence. Do you have any ideas?

    To me, if we do not take the initiative to change our current way of learning, this fear is likely to become true. A lot of memory knowledge and repetitive skills may not be needed. A person who has received a standard education for 16 years, is able to solve equations, calculate and know the time of major historical events .... but all of these, search engines can do within a few seconds.

    So how to learn is becoming a priority for us.

    First, awaken internal drive.

    There is a post I have saw in the DKH. The UI professor no longer uses the centuries-old “chalk and talk” lecture style. By learning the material ahead of time, students come better prepared, and the professor can use the valuable class time to reinforce those concepts with more engaging lessons.

    In a flipped classroom, it is possible for students to have increased input and control over their own learning. By providing short lectures at home, students are given the freedom to learn at their own pace. Students may pause or rewind the lectures, write down questions they may have, and discuss them with their teachers and peers in class. By allowing students to partake in their own learning, they are able to own the knowledge they achieve, which in turn builds confidence.

    Various individual capabilities, such as social skills, learning ability, and time management skills, will be nurtured at the same time. The main purpose is to awaken internal drive.

    Next is about what to learn?

    John Dewey, an American philosopher, educational reformer, said in 1916: [From learners' point of view, the biggest waste in school is that he cannot use what he learned outside school..... On the other hand, he cannot apply what he has learned to real life. This is the isolation of the school, isolated from life. ... Education should not be prepared for future life. Education is life itself. ]

    Social learning often occurs outside traditional classrooms, teaching content, and teaching methods. The purpose of social learning is not only to allow learners to memorize certain points of knowledge or a certain technology, but to help them to experience and develop the most important quality of “being people”: creativity, independent thinking, and citizenship, etc.

    What socialization emphasizes is a state of peer learning. Now more and more popular "project / problem-oriented learning" is atypical social learning. Learners form a team to master skills by completing a common project or solving a common problem. In this process, the mutual exchanges, sharing, and mutual learning of learners will promote each other, which will greatly affect the learning effect.

    I have an example from Etu. Children learn recipes, prepare raw materials, bake cookies, are ready to sell products, and collect money at the Carnival. So there is no “teacher” in the workshop but only"cooperators", assist children to complete the tasks themselves and learn in the process.

    The pace of knowledge renewal is getting faster, books are no longer the main source of knowledge, and we can learn from a meeting, an article, or a forum, a chat, from other people. When I prepared for this presentation, I searched on the internet, was tutored by Jeanette and asked for advice from some students I met in U of I whose majors are education、computerscience. That’s the core value of social learning.

    Furthermore, learning is no longer a matter that can only happen during the “school period,” it becomes a life-long task that needs to be carried out.

    The young man I met in U of I has set up his own business worth millions of dollars, led a team of dozens of people, and traveled a lot. He met with Pony Ma, visited in Huawei, and after a gap year, he continued his post-graduation in machine learning. He believes before receiving higher education, learners have learned a lot in the real world, and also after graduation, learning does not stop.

    So, how and what to learn is a big issue especially in the time of ai. A flipped classroom to awaken internal drive, social learning from everyone everywhere and learning through the whole life will be a new learning trend in the time of ai. Thank you!
