什么是定语从句？
定语从句的基本概念：在句子中修饰某一名词或代词的从句
I have a brother who is a general. （修饰限定）
I have a brother, who is a general. （补充说明）
关系词的用法：
找关系代词：

1. that VS which VS who
This is the best TV set that is made in China. （序数词、最高级修饰先行词，只用that）
Nwe Concept English is intended for foreign students, which is known to us all.（不能用that，放在句首可以用as，句尾可用as,which）
Who that you have ever seen can do better. (避免重复，用that，that既可指人，又可指物)
All that can be done has been done. （all, little等只用that，all that可用what代替）
China is no longer the country that is used to be. （关系词在定语从句中做表语用that，先行词+关系词可用what代替）
He is no longer the simple-minded man that he used to be fives years ago.
2. who, whom, whose
The room whose windows are open is Brotherfive's office. （windows of which）
Brotherfive is a famous English teacher whose books sell well. (of whom)
3. as VS that
武哥真是个好老师，我们都喜欢他
Brotherfive is a good teacher, who we all like.
Brotherfive is such a good teacher that we all like him.（结果状语从句）
Brotherfive is such a good teacher as we all like. （as关系代词，作宾语）
对比：
This is the same book as i read last week.（同类）
This is the same book that i read last week.（同一本书）
She told me the same story as/that she had told you. （story抽象，as,that含义一致）
4. as, whish
Brotherfive will publish a new book, as/which we expect. （as，which都可）
Brotherfive will publish a new book, which is unexpected.（只用which）
5. where, when, why（作状语）
The reason why i'll never forget the days when i learned English with Brotherfive are complex.
Brotherfive loves the very job of teaching where he could spend much happy time with students.（where修饰抽象地点，in the job）
As a boss, Brotherfive has to face the conditions where pressure is heavy. （in that conditions）
6. prep+关系代词
Brotherfive sold the house where he lived 10 years ago.
Brotherfive sold the house which he lived in 10 years ago.
Brotherfive sold the house in which he lives 10 years ago.
He had a lot of friends, only a few of them invited to his wedding. (them不能改为whom，这是独立主格结构)
7. that引导比较状语从句与定语从句之争
在带有比较级的句子中，than可以作代词，兼有连词和代词的性质。也有学者认为这种用法的than是连词，省略了主语
The boy has eaten more food than is good for his health.那个男孩吃得太多，多身体不好。
He smoked fewer cigarettes than were normally avaiable.
More middle-aged persons suffer from heart trouble than is generally realized.
