The essence of social network is based on friendship. Though, when speaking of social networking, there are always people to show faces of contempt. These nay-sayers can't help thinking it as a slimy means to gain private interests.
However, despite cases that are illegal such as bribery and rigged elections, social networking can generate virtue complementary to our human nature as in the light of facts that men are designed to be imperfect, that men are social animals and friendship is a necessary need, and that it helps us get through hardships in life.
Social networking elevates our understanding about the world. As is well-known, no one knows everything. When I study on my own, my mind usually gets lost when there are too much unknown. But after I get in touch with professors and other students on campus and ask them for suggestions, I can always find inspiring ideas from their points of view. Social network allows us a sense of diversity to see a world from the perspective of our fellow being. As human being, we have to acknowledge the fact that we are ignorant at the bottom. Like pupils in school, we need someone wiser to guide us entering new domains of knowledge, yet as adults we should find teachers of our own instead of waiting others to come to us.
Relationship plays as a determining role in one’s happiness. If a person has no friend, he will have no one in vicinity to relieve his sorrow nor to share his happiness with. Some may argue that the need of others is equal to weakness in our ability for we often see women prefer gathering than men, the poor than the rich, sheep than wolves. However, social network exists mostly because of the both parties are equal in their level and thus it is a demonstration of our confidence in self-knowledge, whether of our characters and virtues or of our proficiency in work. As the philosopher Epicurus insists, "one should never eat alone." A good social network teaches us how to manage our relationship as well as the very life of our own for it equips us with a deeper understanding of ourselves.
Friends in our network can come to our rescue when we receive hard blows. Life is almost never as smooth as expected. There are surely tragedies to come. A few of them can be so serious that the unfortunate are not to recover alone. Though friends in need are friends indeed, in most cases tragedies unbearable to one are hardly tolerable for two. To journey on safely, one needs to ensure he has a group of friends for consolidation.
