Zhang Zhongjing, a medical sage of the Han Dynasty, warned people in his book Treateon Febrile Diseases that seeking fame and gain by every means and indulging in vanity and power will inevitably lead to internal conflict and weakness of vital energy. Once attacked by evil spirits from outside, it will lead to "extraordinary diseases".
Ji Kang, a famous physician of preserving health in Jin Dynasty, put it very incisingly in his "On preserving health". He pointed out, "There are five difficulties in keeping good health: one is difficult to avoid fame and wealth, two is difficult to avoid happiness and anger, three is difficult to avoid appearance, four is difficult to avoid taste, and five is difficult to maintain good health." He talks about various factors that affect health, such as diet, lust, mood and so on. But the most important one is "not to lose fame and wealth", that is, not to throw away the spiritual shackles.
Egoist in life after fame and profit, profit at the expense of others, haggle over every ounce, inevitably infinite worry, also tend to prematurely decline. Fu Lianban, former president of the Chinese Medical Association, put it well: "Individualism is often a source of sorrow and vexation. Because the individualist's appetite is insatiable, his mind is full of anxiety, delusion, anger, and depression, and he's "raging in heaven, and there's no peace. This is a very sad life. When he reaches a goal, what he feels is not the joy of harvest, but the anxiety for the next higher pursuit. Just like a person who has made 100,000 yuan through all his hardships, all he thinks about is how to make 1 million yuan. But imagine, when he really got a million, he will be happy in the bottom of his heart? The answer is clearly no. Such a person is narrow-minded, unable to share happiness with others, and will only end up with heavier and heavier mental shackles, plunging into the abyss of extreme pain.
Selflessness, on the other hand, is the freedom of the mind, the freedom of the mind, the openness of the mind, the serenity of the mind, the optimism of the mood, the natural benefits of physical and mental health, and often leads to a long life.
