故从事于道者同于道;德者同于德;失者同于失。同于道者,道亦乐得之;同于德者,德亦乐得之;同于失者,失亦乐得之。信不足焉,有不信焉!
译文:
所以,从事于道的就同于道,从事于德的就同于德,从事于失的人就同于失。同于道的人,道也乐于得到他;同于德的人,德也乐于得到他;同于失的人,失也乐于得到他。统治者的诚信不足,就会有人不信任。
解释:
从事于道者:按道办事的人。此处指统治者按道施政。
失:指失道或失德。
老子用自然界狂风暴雨必不持久的事实作比喻,告诫统治者少以强制性的法令横加干涉,更不要施行暴政,而要行“清静无为”之政,才符合于自然规律,才能使百姓安然畅适。倘若以法令戒律强制人民,用苛捐杂税榨取百姓,那么人民就会以背戾抗拒的行动对待统治者,暴政将不会持久。

If a leader does something according to the Dao ,he will be like the Dao.
If a leader does something according to the
Power,he will be like the Power.
If a leader does something against the
Dao or the Power,he will be dislike the Dao or the Power.
To be like the Dao,Dao readily helps him.
To be like the power,Power readily helps him.
To be against the Dao or the Power,he will
lost them.
If a leader isn't in good faith, the ordinary
people won't believe him.
