It snowed yesterday in my hometown. but the snow flakes never could stand because of the warm temperature. No matter what, the snow was welcomed.
There was never a winter storm with heavy snows this winter in the town. And it was a warm winter, too. Not a good sign for the global warming phobic public.
Come to think of it, the weather did get warmer gradually in the north over the years. I am not a big fan of cold weather. But when the weather pattern started to change, you do wonder what's going to happen next.
We all kept getting the news about the melting polar ice, and occasionally, some big chunk of ice as big as a small country would break off from the frozen continents of Antarctica or Arctic. In this rate, the sea level rise is inevitable.
As a matter of fact, in my academic field, we have started to study the impact of the sea level rise a few years ago for the local states and city governments. There are always a section in sea level rise study in any master plan for the future for any of those coastal cities. The economic impact is and will be enormous based on those studies.
We human as a specie has been too successful on the planet. When one specie is too dominant, the sustainability becomes a problem. If we don't control ourselves, the nature will have to take it's course eventually. And the results won't be pretty. We have only one Planet Earth (Unless we figure out a way to go to another life sustaining residence). We have no choice but act consciously, work together to develop self-sustained ecosystems, and protect our environment!
