Before COVID -19, most people in the West had to go to the office to perform professional tasks. During the pandemic, the majority of the population experienced the benefits of flexible working. Work could be done anywhere as long as Internet connections were good. In the wake of the COVID era, more and more people have chosen to be digital nomads, not tied to fixed workplaces and working remotely, perhaps even mobile-like nomads. With laptops connected to the Internet, they can do their work anywhere, anytime.

In the U.S., the number of digital nomads is on the rise. Many IT Silicon Valley professionals are moving to Texas or even further south to Mexico to enjoy the lower cost of living and do their work remotely.

Some families travel around the U.S. in RVs with their homeschooled children. The parents pursue their professional commitments online. Their professions are usually designers, consultants, or freelance writers. The children learn and explore the world through their own eyes. Some wealthier families even hire a travelling teacher to accompany them on their journey and help their children learn various subjects. 1

Some younger couples work part-time as pet sitters. When someone is needed at their dream destination to care for the pets, they simply go, stay at the house for free, take care of dogs and cats, and do their work online.
Hannah and Joseph Ryan, a newlywed couple, exemplify this lifestyle. They have travelled the southwestern U.S. living in beautiful homes for free in exchange for working as nannies for the owners' pets and plants.2
Another couple, Austin Andrews and Jori Kerr are globetrotters, travelling not only around the U.S. but also abroad to places like Grenada, Germany and Gibraltar, where they work as temporary pet sitters while some homeowners travel. They have chronicled their offbeat lives in video blogs, attracting millions of fans all over the world on TikTok and Instagram. They have saved tens of thousands on hotel room rentals, made money from their videos and, best of all, seen the world's beautiful landscapes. 3

How exotic and free the nomadic lifestyle is! If you can keep your head above water with remote work, would you like to follow in their footsteps and see the world?
